Working on a couple of UFOs

Instead of starting another new quilt, I decided I would sort of finish off some UFOs.

This is a big one. It was described as a modern sampler quilt called Anthologie and was a quilt along with Southern Charm quilts. She has revamped the pattern and it's now for sale. I just went with fabric that I had and it's basically peaches and greens with other fabrics and colours thrown in. I guess I should take a better photo. Perhaps an outside photo but at the moment it's -6C outside with snow on the ground.

This is the other UFO I have been working on. I added a row or two more just to make it a bit bigger. I had thought that I would just go with how many blocks I had but it seemed a bit on the small size. The blocks are 7 inches finished and they are 3D bowties. I just need to lay them out again and sew them all together. If you have never made a 3D bowtie, all you need is 5 squares of equal size. Two squares for the background and 3 for the bowtie. I cut these at 4 inches and all the blocks are made from floral fabric with no repeats.

There is a sew along on Facebook where every Friday we can obtain a heart pattern a week. The blocks are 6.5 inches unfinished. So far, it's only been week 2. Here's the link in case anyone wants to join in. It may take some fiddling with printer settings to get the blocks to the correct size but then again, close is good enough.

A New Quilt

On New Year's Day there was a one day quilt along called Merry Mayhem Mystery. After I looked at the requirements, I realized that it needed only four fabrics and that you could make it in the size that you wanted and felt would work best for you. Since I have a lot of fabric in my stash, I was hoping to use some of it up. Each colour needed less than one yard/metre of fabric and so I chose my four fabrics and waited until the last clue was released. Then I got to work and started the quilt. I wanted a new quilt on one of the twin beds in the bedroom that the grandchildren use when they visit.

These were my four chosen colours.

Sometimes it pays to wait and in this case, the instructions were a bit off so I saved myself some figuring out.

There was some cutting, some sewing and then more cutting.

Of course, the iron was put to work too.

Here's the finished top laying on one of the beds.

I have enough of the fabrics that I could add borders to make it a tad bigger. I finished this just today and now it's folded up and in the closet waiting to be worked on when I have more time to devote to it.
I don't usually do well on quilt alongs. Something usually happens in my life and I end up having to get other things done.

Now I have to cut and prepare some background pieces for another quilt. I'm also knitting another headband with reflective yarn. I just hope there's enough yarn left in the ball.

Christmas Quilt Along - November Part two

Here they all are, 25 little socks. They fit. That's all I wanted to make sure of. Now they are packed away waiting for the 1st of December.
The pattern was from Red Heart and the little socks are just ornamental. The original pattern shows them decorating a knitted pillow but there is no way I am going to knit a pillow cover and then put these little socks on it.

More yarn to make more little socks but in Christmas colours this time to decorate the wreath I showed yesterday.

Some little boy is getting a horsey for Christmas. Handmade from a vendor at one of the craft fairs.

These little critters came home with us too from the fair.

Just a bit of fabric was purchased. Remnants.

I also picked up lots of nice, washable wool for gifts.

I'm off to make more little socks in Christmas colours. See you next month for the last installment of the 2013 Christmas Quilt Along. I'm linking up with Hazel this month who is the hostess for the quilt along.

Christmas Quilt Along - November Part one

I've been out and about today so tomorrow will be another QAL post. Today I attended a Christmas craft fair with my daughter and her two little boys. We went to one yesterday too. There was some lovely stuff at both locations. I'll take a photo of some of the stuff that was bought and show you all tomorrow since it's already dark out and I know the photo won't show up too well. BTW, the boys were both very good - especially little Patric. After all, you can't get into too much trouble when you're strapped into a stroller. I also got to a nice little yarn shop and bought some superwash wool.

I started this little Christmas project sometime last month.

This was the beginning. Believe it or not, they are little socks approximately 5 inches long.

This is how many I got done by 23rd of last month. Altogether there 14 here.

And these were numbers 15 and 16 on the needles.

These little socks will become an advent calendar for my little grandsons. All are different in colour.

Mack and Mabel had this cute wreath on their blog and I thought those little socks looked so familiar. My daughters liked it too and now I will be making some red, white and green socks.

Tomorrow I'll show you the finished little socks - maybe all hung up.

Christmas Quilt Along - October

First off, my apologies for the lateness of this post. We are switching internet carriers and it is taking a couple of hours today to change over. I was totally without the internet for awhile there.

Anyway, this will be a quick post because of that and the fact that it is our Thanksgiving weekend and since the family dinner is tomorrow, I am trying to prepare as much as I can today - along with last minute shopping for items we forgot to get last night.

This is the beginning of a sock, knitted flat. It’s not a useable sock, it’s for decoration purposes. I saw this pattern on Red Heart yarns newsletter and it sparked an idea. My eldest daughter wants a quilted advent calendar – the one with 25 small, three inch, paper pieced squares. I know it will take me a long time to make those but in the meantime, I thought I could knit 25 socks and little Luc could have fun hanging them up (I bought mini clothespins) on a crocheted clothesline in December. A sock advent calendar.

Here’s how many I have so far. They are my evening work sitting in front of the TV.

I have two separate sets of needles on the go so that I could switch it up. They don’t take all that long to make but I am hoping to get all 25 done in a different worsted weight colour. I don’t know if I have that many different coloured yarns. I keep looking in the bags in the closet. I do have a Value Village down the street from me so I guess I could check to see what they have to offer once I see how far I’ve gotten.

And now I'm off to get those errands done and then I shall have to work my Christmas Quilt Along project. If I have time, I shall write another post so you can see my progress, but if not, you'll know why I am busy. Family time.

I'm linking up with Joanna who is this month's  Christmas QAL hostess. Pop on over to see what the others are up to.

Christmas Quilt Along - September

Well, it's here, the second full weekend of the month and it's time for the Christmas QAL. This month is being hosted by Hazel over at Hazel's Quilts. Go on over for a visit to see what everyone is up to this month on their Christmas projects.

I have been diligently cutting and sewing some fabric for my Christmas Present table runner. For those of you who haven't been here before, it's a free pattern over here at Connecting Threads. I'm just making my runner a bit shorter since the challenge had a stipulation whereby the whole project couldn't be more than 96" in perimeter.

And here's where I'm at right now. I have a bit of a ways to go but I still have a couple months left to finish it.

In case you haven't visited in a while, I have completed this Christmas star. It was a UFO for several years and I finally decided that it was time to get it finished and it is now totally complete with label and a hanging sleeve.

So, now I will link up with Hazel for the Christmas QAL.
