Every Inchie Monday #4

Maudlin: foolishly tearful or sentimental, as when drunk

I always considered maudlin to have a dull, depressing colour attached to it. I was surprised that the definition most always mentioned drinking or being drunk - hence the glass of whatever. I thought the drinker of the beverage would be sentimentally looking at an old photograph.

  2. I always thought that word meant sad and teary eyed but didn't know it always involved drink. Maybe the person in the photo is just longing to get out and have a drink. It's pretty tempting sitting right there in front of him.

  3. There is so much emotion in this one, Dolores. I can feel the hollowness of nostalgia in that man's eyes. Great little inchie.

  8. I didn't realize maudlin had anything to do with drinking! For some reason, I always see that word as a color - sort of a dark purpley red.
You nailed it for this inchie - you're so good at this!
