While watching Jeopardy just now, a wonderful game show where three contestants have to come up with a question to various answers, there were two men and one woman who didn't know who this man was.
I don't have the photo that was shown so I'll show an unsmiling one and ...
a smiling one.
The Jeopardy answer was that he (photo) followed Jean Chretien (maybe that threw some of them.)
Give up?
I'll give you another hint.
How's this?
Or this?

Answer - or rather, Jeopardy question: Who is Prime Minister Stephen Harper?
BTW, Prime Minister of Canada, that is.
Added note: Stephen Harper has been the Prime Minister since 2006 - so he is not a new face.
Added note: Stephen Harper has been the Prime Minister since 2006 - so he is not a new face.
Oh yes, one other thing - the host of Jeopardy, Alex Trebek, is Canadian.
Pretty sad, wasn't it? We were watching too. I bet there's not one Canadian who couldn't identify the President of the USA but most Americans can't tell you who our PM is... sad indeed...
ReplyDeleteIt's a sad state of affairs. I took a cruise a long time ago. The band played the US National Anthem. Everyone stood up, including the Canadians. Then the Americans sat down and the band played the Canadian National Anthem. The Canadians stood back up and I heard the Americans say, "Why are all those people standing up?"
ReplyDeleteI can only hang my American head in shame.
ReplyDeleteHis face is very non-descript however. Face it, fellow Canadians.

In this wacky world with so much strife in the U.S. and elsewhere, perhaps it's a good thing that you don't have anything or anyone to draw attention to! I love Canada and have "given" my only granddaughter to a Canadian lad. I've thought about moving there myself but your cost of living is a bit too high for my retirement. Maybe that just means that you pay a decent wage to your people. Hooray for Canada!
ReplyDeleteSadly I don't recognise him either - so the UK doesn't hear much of him. On the other hand, I know Rob Ford, Mayor of Toronto. Maybe you should be pleased nobody knows him. Maybe that means he just gets on with his job and doesn't make waves.
ReplyDeleteIt just means he isn't doing anything newsworthy I guess...that could be a good thing or not:) On the other hand I am sick to death with Rob Ford and his antics.
ReplyDeleteI flunk the quiz. But I learned something today. Thanks:)
ReplyDeleteI caught fifteen minutes of a show last night...the question to an American contestant: What did the first settlers who landed in Plymouth, arrive in?
ReplyDeleteThe answer: a war ship.
I was completely shocked at the utter stupidity out there!
So, not only are some USA citizens absolutely daft about their neighbour to the north, but they are quite daft about themselves! I just prefer they stay on their own side of the border. Sad, but true.
Cheers, from Oshawa, Ontario.
Not at all surprising! It's a never ending source of amusement to me just how many people actually think we have snow all year (probably think we live in igloos too).

ReplyDelete(Wow... let's see if I can do this without typos!)
ReplyDeleteI was under the impression that our Canadian President was Tim Horton.
Whi the heck is this guy!??
Chuckle chuckle
Typo.
DeleteSigh

Pretty sad indeed but that means my son is a little safer :-)
