Tuesday Treat

These are two vintage (old) quilts that were at the Textile Museum of Canada, located in downtown Toronto. I liked old quilts before but as I age, I am becoming more and more of a fan of old quilts. I stood in front of the red and green star on white (the left quilt) for quite a while. I stood and stared because it had an optical illusion effect to it. If one was to visually concentrate on just one star, some of the other ones appeared not to have any red. It wasn't until you moved your eyes and looked at the stars that you realized that they all had red and green and white. It was really an interesting quilt up close.

  1. Beautiful! I like the strip of small stars along the top edge of the quilt. Never seen that before.

  2. There is something very appealing about looking at an antique quilt and imagining the feeling that went into making it.

  3. Those are stunning quilts enhanced by white wall and chairs- artistic and soothing to the eye!
I do not think, in response to your comment on my blog, that I will ever be a gramma- My son is so not interested in procreating...I suppose he could change his mind (?) Anyway - awesome for you to have a grandbaby, the new one- I am all clucky over the idea- would love to change a nappy and nibble a baby toe!

  4. The thing about these old quilts, at least to me is that I can see in my minds eye the quilts on the beds of my grandmother's house, at my aunts house and even on my own (teenage) bed. No matter what the pattern they fill memories in my head...

  5. How interesting about the optical illusion. I too am enjoying older quilts more as I age. I've been studying your header photo and trying to figure where in Vancouver it was shot from.
