Green, rainbow and little visitors

Three of my little grandchildren come over after school until their parents come and pick them up. I like to keep extra hats, mitts and scarves in case something gets lost or wet. I didn't seem to have any scarves that were a comfortable size for the little ones so I decided to make at least one so I could keep it in my hall cupboard for future use.

My daughter-in-law requested a green hat for newest little granddaughter who is just over five months old.

Here's a close-up of the stitches I used. It was a fun hat to make.

This little guy, Teemu, and

his little sister, Esme, stayed with us for five days while their parents were at a conference in San Diego.

While they were here, I made Teemu a neck warmer. He chose the 'ninja turtle' green flannel and 

the other side was some Scooby Doo flannel that I had in my stash.

I just added some velcro so it would be easy to put on and take off.

Easy to make, reversible and soft to wear.

I asked my daughter, Maili, what Esme's favourite colour was and apparently, little Esme loves rainbows. One day when my husband and I were out doing some Christmas shopping, I happened to spot some rainbow yarn. And of course, I had to buy it and make Esme a rainbow hat.

Well, once she got it, she didn't take it off and even when her parents came back and she was home, her mom said she wore her rainbow hat at breakfast.

It had been cold and snowy when they stayed with us but once the sun came out and got rid of some of the snow, we went out for a short walk.

Down the street following pops.

And into the coffee shop for a doughnut.

Smile.

A little boy

The only grandson who I see on a regular basis is Teemu. My other grandsons live in British Columbia and in England. Teemu is four years old and just started school in September.

Although he doesn't mind the cold weather, he is not keen on wearing a winter jacket at times. This hat was made by me for his older cousin. The sweater was his older cousins too. Midge from Soggibottom blog knitted the sweater.

His name is a Finnish name and he shares it with a hockey player who plays for the Toronto Maple Leafs. Hockey and curling are about the only sports that get watched here. Baseball, soccer and basketball get watched rarely. This newspaper was cut out and saved for Teemu so he can read it when he gets older. Hockey is an expensive sport to play with all the gear that is required.

Sunrise

I took this photo early one morning a couple of weeks ago. The sky was just so pretty. 

The view is out my back door, looking onto everyone's backyards. I was up super early.

Another update

These are all the blue segments to the 52 Blocks in 52 Weeks and I'm now on to purple.

Little things for little people

Little hats is about the only knitting I have been doing lately.

Two hats made with double knit yarn.

These two were made with worsted weight yarn in my favourite pattern at the moment called Bankhead. The pattern is on Ravelry and the designer is a Canadian who named it after a ghost town in Alberta.

I had previously made monster tooth fairy pillows for my eldest grandsons Luc and Patric, who live in BC and so these ones were made for the two younger grandsons. Patric just lost another tooth so his pillow is getting a workout.

One of my five year old granddaughters, Mackenzie, lost her first tooth a couple of weeks ago so I decided to make some tooth fairy pillows.
I wanted something more feminine for the girls and these are what I came up with. The wings are ribbon and the rest of the pillow is made from felt.

I used this plastic ice cream lid as a pattern for the tooth fairy pillows. The idea for the body of the little girl came from free clip art on the internet.

I made a couple of extras so I wouldn't have to rush for the next time one of my grandchildren needed a tooth fairy pillow.

The pocket is on the back of the pillow. For the monster pillows, the pocket is the mouth of the monster.

I also managed to sew up a pair of pajamas for Atticus while he was here at the end of September visiting us with his mom. I made the pajamas exactly the way the pattern was for a size two but I found the legs way too long and the neck opening too big. I think I'll go back to my other pj pattern that has buttons because the size is better and the pjs turn out nicer - in my opinion.
