Region of York Quilters' Guild show - Part One

I'm sorry but I completely forgot to post these photos. I attended this show on May 4th. They held it at a new venue which some people had difficulty locating. Luckily, we were able to phone our daughter who looked up a map on the internet and was able to direct us to the location. Two women who entered right behind me mentioned, to the front desk ladies, the hard time they had in finding the place. I didn't feel so bad then. So, here's the show.

There was a lot of detail in this one.

 

Remember her name - there are other quilts by her.

 

There were a few 3-D flowers.

 

I'm not sure if any of the quilts mentioned if there was a scale to the things that are in this quilt or if the maker just went by eye.

 

Some beautiful applique.

 

It was also hand quilted.

My eldest daughter likes loons.

I have yet to make a loon quilt.

This is another Ann Taylor quilt.

I like this table runner but it would be too wide for my table.

Slow

Well, I added a couple more blocks to this. It will get done one day. I  needed to take a photo so that I would know what colour blocks to make next and also, to see what colours I have enough of. In each block there is one colour and one neutral or lighter shade of the same colour. I have not repeated any of the colours but there are repeats of the lights - mainly white and off-white.

Various things

Here's the final 5 little doll quilts with their little pillows that our little group, the Champagne Quilters, have made for the Toys for Tots campaign in connection with the Superior Association of Woodworkers.

All of this putting fabrics together for these little quilts has inspired Marg to make a few for her church bazaar.

 

My Christmas cactus has decided to bloom.

 

This was my backyard last week. The pear tree was in bloom, the forsythia were blooming and there is another tree to the left peeking through that has pretty pink flowers. They are still blooming but the wind came at took some away.

 

Mother Nature never fails to surprise us. Even though it wasn't cold, we did get hail last week (click on the photo for a bigger view.) These are my front steps and yes, they do need a good paint job but I'm hoping that they get stripped and stained instead of painted. Our hail wasn't as big as some other people got in the suburbs. There, they got golf ball sized hail.

 

I have started yet another new project but this time, it's cross stitch. I needed something that I could do in the evening while watching TV. I have already changed the colours. This is from Stitchy Kitty's web site and these squares were supposed to be pink, alternating with red. I don't really like red and pink together. Two shades of blue are more to my liking.

 

I'm still working away on Patric's baby quilt but it's slow going. I added to some of the blocks that I already made and changed the last bear's colouring. Having to re-think things is taking time but it will be up on the frames ready to hand quilt shortly (I hope.)

Earthquake

We aren't known for our earth movements here in good old Toronto but this morning at 9:45 a.m., there was a 4.8 magnitude earthquake.
It's not the first time I have felt an earthquake. Around here, they are mild, and not everyone feels it. I was just sitting here on my couch, beside one of my cats and as she woke up to clean herself, I felt the house vibrate. I thought about it and realized it was an earthquake because there isn't any construction outside. It was the same feeling as before. I think this makes 3 so far, for me.
