Just a little intermission

I was planning to post more on my walks in BC but since it takes so long to upload photos, I thought I would show you what nature has provided instead. I'll do the more walk photos in the next post - promise.

Here I am with a bowl of fresh asparagus. Not too big a deal EXCEPT that these are wild asparagus. They grow in the sand close to the Fraser River and my son-in-law found a batch when he was out walking.

We were surprised at how much he actually found.

I almost forgot to take a photo of them cooked. They were tender, mild in flavour and very good just fried lightly.

Even a little boy got to try some.

No one knows where the asparagus came from - perhaps seeds that some birds distributed. However they started growing where they did, you really have to look hard for them since the grasses that around are the same colour. Mother Nature has done a good job.

  5. my sister used to have several wild plants of it in her yard ... before she moved to another property.... darn it... we used to pick it and eat it for a whole week when I visited...I loved it. Nothing like the stuff we get in Safeway... oh, soooo much better from the wild...
