I always considered maudlin to have a dull, depressing colour attached to it. I was surprised that the definition most always mentioned drinking or being drunk - hence the glass of whatever. I thought the drinker of the beverage would be sentimentally looking at an old photograph.
I've never heard of the word. You gave it an interesting turn.
ReplyDeleteI always thought that word meant sad and teary eyed but didn't know it always involved drink. Maybe the person in the photo is just longing to get out and have a drink.It's pretty tempting sitting right there in front of him.

I didn't realize maudlin had anything to do with drinking! For some reason, I always see that word as a color - sort of a dark purpley red.
