Every Inchie Monday #5

Mirthful: joyous; gay; jolly.
"arousing or provoking laughter; "an amusing film with a steady stream of pranks and pratfalls"; "an amusing fellow"; "a comic hat"; "a comical look of surprise"; "funny stories that made everybody laugh"

I hope it made you smile.

Needle and thread

Here's what I am working on.

A little bit of cross stitch that was started years ago. I am trying to get rid of stuff and finish other stuff. Some fabric and panels have already left my house and nothing new has come in - well, nothing fabric related.

A little bit of embroidery.

I would love to hand quilt on my frame but I noticed that one board of a larger set is not straight - it's wonky and so I need a new one. Hopefully, I can get one soon so I can carry on. The backing fabric is already found and pressed. It just needs to be trimmed to size.
Slowly, things are getting done.

Maudlin: foolishly tearful or sentimental, as when drunk

I always considered maudlin to have a dull, depressing colour attached to it. I was surprised that the definition most always mentioned drinking or being drunk - hence the glass of whatever. I thought the drinker of the beverage would be sentimentally looking at an old photograph.

Update and bargello

Here's what the quilt looks like now. I took this photo after we had quilted last night.

The Champagne Quilters are back quilting this queen-sized quilt and we took two turns from one side and one turn from the other side. It is getting smaller quicker than we imagined. I'm pretty sure we will have to turn it again next week.

On another note, I have entered my quilt in this week's Bargello quilt contest brought to you by the Quilting Gallery.
Go vote for the one you like. You have to scroll all the way down to the bottom to vote - just click on the little circle.
This is what mine looks like. It's called From San Fran to LA. I wrote about it in November 2009.

Thankful

I am certainly blessed when it comes to friends from my blog world. Look what came in today's mail.

It's from Mary-Frances of Outside the Line. All I did was ask if there was such a thing as a 9 1/2" square ruler because on her blog, she showed an 8 1/2" one that she used. I wanted to make an applique quilt with 9 1/2" blocks. She kindly said she would check it out on her next excursion to the quilt store. Well, as you can see, yes, they did have one and so she sent it to me all the way from Alberta and in the same package she sent that gorgeous fabric. I have tried and tried to take a photo showing the lovely light green of the bottom fabric but it just won't come out true. She would not let me reimburse her for any of it but I will most definitely pay her wonderful generosity forward. Go check out Mary's blog. She is undergoing some renovations right now but if you check out her archive, you will see that she has made some wonderful quilts. Become a follower and you can keep up with her creativity.

And:
I would also like to thank Michele of the Textile Traveler. I was the winner of her recent giveaway of a 6 month membership to "The Quilt Show." Thank you Michele. I know I will be learning from some very interesting professionals in the quilt world. Michele is from Texas and is multi-talented. Not only does she quilt but she draws and paints too. Go check her out and see what she is up to.

Challenging Ourselves

I belong to a yahoo group called 'Challenging Ourselves' and today is the big reveal of the theme "Favourite Places." First of all, it did not indicate 'my' favourite places and so I chose instead to look around and find another way of interpreting the theme. I have many favourite places and it would have taken too long to interpret them. This is what I came up with.

This was an interpretation of a photo I took of two cats and their favourite place on a sunny day. It is not quilted nor are any of the seams turned under. I wanted to leave everything as raw as possible. It will be framed with a mat board and then put under glass so I didn't want the extra bulk or batting and backing. Most of the stitching is my hand.
